Imphal, January 19 2020:
The ABVP has strongly condemned the statement made by senior advocate Indira Jaising urging Nirbhaya's mother to forgive the convicts, alleging that this act implies a direct encouragement to extremely horrific crimes.
A statement issued by the secretary, ABVP Central Office, Mumbai, conveyed that the brutal episode of Nirbhaya's rape and murder had sent the Nation into a state of hopelessness, with people demanding capital punishment for the accused.
It stated that supposed human-rights activists have turned the issue of women's security on its head by demanding mitigation in the severity of punishment for the convict.
ABVP reasoned that all must prioritize self defence training for women and added that it has been at the forefront of the movement to impart physical and psychological strength training among lakhs of female students by way of the signature programme 'Mission Sahasi' .
Besides, stringent laws and additional steps for speedy disposal of cases have to materialise for ensuring comprehensive safety of women in every part of the country, ABVP reasoned.
On the other hand, it questioned why the senior advocate is trying to urge Nirbhaya's mother to forgive the convicts.
ABVP further demanded immediate execution of the convicts and conveyed that the old adage, justice delayed is justice denied, should be the only guiding principal in the battle for justice.
