Imphal, December 18 2012:
The United Naga Council has acknowledged and appreciated the general public of Tamenglong for the co-operation and solidarity extended to the call to boycott the State sponsored Orange festival.
In a statement, the publicity wing of the UNC said that the mass abstention clearly speaks the people's sentiments which is for an Alternative Arrangement for the Nagas outside the Government of Manipur.
The UNC has also congratulated ANSAM and its constituent units, the Zeliangrong Youth Front (AMN), Zeliangrong Baudi (Manipur) and other Zeliangrong organisations and leaders of political parties for effectively campaigning for the boycott of Chief Minister and the Deputy Chief Minister at the Orange festival.
The spontaneous response from every section of the society has made the boycott peaceful and truly demonstrative, claimed UNC and added that it would continue to count on the co-operation of the public in all the Naga areas in engaging the communal forces both from within and without through the people's movement for securing the established position of the Naga people till the common aspiration is achieved.
Meanwhile, in a joint statement, the publicity wing of ANSAM and ZYF reiterated "The demonstrations carried out in the last two days was never a movement to destroy the spirit and beauty of festival but ours is a movement condemning the agenda of Okram Ibobi Singh.
"For Ibobi and his Govt State sponsored Festival(s)/ Program(s) is one of the most fertile grounds to dilute the issue and negate the position of the Nagas.
However the unscrupulous Naga partymen and Naga ADC Members have failed to understand that", further asserted the statement.
