AMSU to host play on Hunger Marchers' Day

Informing that a drama on Hunger Marchers' Day will be performed on the occasion of this year's Memorial Day, All Manipur Students' Union (AMSU) has appealed to artistes, who have already been part of the play on earlier occasions as well as new artistes willing to participate in the drama to extend cooperation and make the event successful.
In a statement, AMSU recalled the series of events that led to the spontaneous public movement against manmade rice scarcity on August 27, which later came to be known as Hunger Marchers' Day (Chaklam Khongchat) and how police used their bayonet to gorge two students and a driver of AIR Imphal to dead.
Several students and protestors were also injured in the movement.
One of the injured students also died after few days of treatment, the release recalled, adding that the incident marked the birth of AMSU and the union began observing August 27 every year to commemorate the incident.
Every year, AMSU hosted a drama to commemorate the incident but it suspended the play for some years due to Covid-19 .
However, this year, AMSU will host the drama to mark the 57th anniversary of the movement, the statement said.
It further informed that the blessing ceremony of the drama will be held at AMSU head office on Wednesday at 9 am and appealed to artistes who have been part of the play and new artistes who are willing to participate to help in making it a success.
