Seminar on women led development held

A 3-day National Conference on "Women-Led Development: A Game Changer" was kicked off today as a part of G20 University Connect: Engaging Young Minds program at VC Court Hall, Manipur University.
The conference was organised by Centre for Myanmar Studies and Department of Philosophy, Manipur University under the aegis of the Research and Information System for Developing Countries (RIS), New Delhi.
Speaking as the chief guest, Professor Lokendra, Vice Chancellor, MU, said that for a long time social scientists and policy planners across the world including G20 countries have discussed the topic of "Women and Development" .
He also lauded India for introducing dialogue on "Women led development" at the G20 Summit last year when India presided.
Highlighting the need to continue discussion on the theoretical perspective and policy formulation with regard to "Women led development" at the 2024 G20 Brazil presidency, the VC added that this will help in mapping out a pragmatic action plan to solve the problems of gender issues and making women an indispensable component in the development process.
Lauding women markets and traditional production activities in the case of Manipur, Professor Lokendra said that this creates an interconnected network between far-flung women markets in hill areas to rural markets and the bustling Khwairamband Keithel at the heart of Imphal city.
With the help of this network, women in the State have successfully built social and cultural capital.
Other dignitaries including Professor MC Arunkumar, Director, Centre for Myanmar Studies; Registrar Professor Wahengbam Chandbabu and Professor Dr Priyadarshi Dash, Associate Professor, RIS graced the event as functional president and guests of honour respectively.
