Loktak Downstream Project likely to be put into motion Tentative cost pegged at Rs 1300 crore

Loktak Downstream Project which has remained a non-starter for the past many decades and having an installed capacity of 66 MW of power may be put into motion in November/December this year.
NHPC and the State Government would take up the project as a joint venture and a target of five years (60 months) has been set for execution of the project, informed an official source.
Tentative cost of the project is Rs 1300 crore and the exact estimated cost would be worked out soon.

The exact cost of the project would be known after opening tender bids.
Due process for selection of lowest price bidders has been already initiated.
Simplex Infrastructure Private Limited, F-Con Company and Patel Engineering Company have applied for the tender so far.
The tender bids submitted by the three firms would be opened shortly.
One the tender bids are opened, the exact cost of the project can be worked out.
Already, forest and environmental clearance has been obtained for executing the project.
Construction of approach road to Tousang Khunou of Tamenglong district which is the barrage site of the project has been completed.
Now machinery needed for executing the project can be taken to the project site.
Construction of road up to Tousang Khullen near Irang where the project's power house would be situated is currently under construction.
Assessment of the extent of private lands that would be affected by the project has also been completed.
But compensation for affected areas is yet to be paid.
In case construction of a road up to Tousang Khullen and payment of compensation can be completed speedily, execution of the project would be initiated by November or December this year, added the official source.
