Imphal, July 17 2014:
Even as the accused in the alleged rape case of a minor Gorkha girl has been reman-ded to judicial custody till July 31, family of the rape survivor have expressed concern over delay in framing charge sheet against the accused and slow progress of the trial.
S Ngaopuni (65) s/o (L) Seiha of Liyai Khullen, at present residing at Paomai Colony, Sangakpham, allegedly raped the minor girl after he brought her to a se-cluded place at Kamei Ching on NH-2 on April 17 .
Naopuni allegedly brought the girl there on the pretext of letting her cast vote in the Parliamentary election held on the day.
Naopuni was today produced before the Court of District and Sessions Court, Manipur East and remanded to judicial custody till July 31 .
He is currently lodged in Sajiwa Central Jail in connection with the case under FIR number 30(4) 2014 of Heigang Police Station.
Speaking to reporters outside the Court complex, one of the family members of the rape survivor said that the concerned Police Station and the Investigating Officer have not framed any charge sheet against the accused till date.
As such, trial of the case does not see any progress although the incident happened around 3-4 months back.
Saying that delay in the framing charge sheet would lead to delay in delivering justice to the rape survivor, the family member urged the authority concerned to submit charge sheet at the earliest.
Naopuni surrendered before the police within a few days after the incident.
Locals of Kanglatongbi launched an intense agitation along NH-2 demanding justice, in which a youth died in police firing.
