Imphal, February 17 2025:
Students pursuing a degree in Education have submitted a signed memorandum to the Governor and Education (S) Director to include the subject as one of the essential subjects for recruitment of Arts Graduate Teachers.
The memorandum, signed by as many as 686 students, was submitted to the Governor and the Education (S) Director, after Education was found excluded from the list of essential subjects/qualification for recruitment of Art Graduate Teachers in a draft recruitment rules published recently.
Speaking to reporters at the Department of Education, Manipur University, Tongbram Avinash, a student representative said the draft Recruitment Rules for Graduate Teachers was notified on February 6 by the Directorate of Education (S), inviting claim and objection-if any by February 20 .
He said the draft recruitment rules' Annexure-II for recruitment of as many as 1003 posts of Arts Graduate Teachers didn't mention Education as one of the essential subjects.
Only a Bachelor's Degree in Arts with one of the subjects--Economics, Geography, History, Philosophy, Political Science, Psychology, Sociology, Commerce as Hons/Core subject was mentioned as essential qualification in addition to BEd or its equivalent degree.
The exclusion of Education as one of the essential subjects is unacceptable and this would destroy the career of thousands of the students of the subject, Avinash said.
A Bachelor's Degree in Education must be included as one of the essential subjects in the final draft recruitment rules, he said, appealing to the Governor and the Directorate of Education (S) .
