Imphal, January 17 2017:
The Joint Action Committee for Protection of Nungei Meitei (JACPNM) and Khwai Nungseng Sintha Lup (KHNSI) are going to organise a peace convention on January 19 in order to bring a peaceful solution to the tense situation prevailing at Nungei.
Speaking to media persons at Manipur Press Club today, Tensubam Leishemba Meitei (Gen secy, KHNSI) said that the two associations are planning to organise a peace convention at Iram Siphai Mamang Leikai on January 19 in order to bring an amicable solution to the tense situation prevailing in the area between two neighbouring communities.
Urging the public to participate in the convention, he pointed out that the Government alone would not be able to resolve such issues.
Numerous civil society organisations, eminent personalities and spiritual leaders will also participate in the convention, he added.
According to Huidrom Dinesh (co-convenor of the JACPNM), the people who have been staying at a relief camp at Iram Siphai Mamang Leikai will undertake a peace rally after the convention and return to their respective homes, if the Government keeps its promise to fulfil some of the JAC's earlier demands.
He also urged all the communities and CSOs to participate in the peace convention and the peace rally.
