Imphal, August 16 2013 :
A woman who was undergoing treatment after she suffered 90 per cent burn injuries succumbed to her injuries at Shija Hospital today.
Even though Shakila's in-laws claimed that she got burnt by accident, her elder sister and brother sister have alleged that it was a case of immolation and murder.
The siblings questioned why their brother-in-law Fakiruddin did not attempt to save Shakila as she got burnt at the initial stage.
Shakila also reportedly asked her parents not to send her back to he husband if she ever recovers and let her stay with them.
Shakila Begum (28) w/o Fakiruddin of Moirang Tera Khongshangbi was brought to RIMS on August 1 as she got burnt in her kitchen.
After some days, she was referred to Shija Hospital on August 10 but she succumbed to the wounds at about 7.15 this morning.
Shija Hospital Managing Director Dr Kh Palin observed that the condition of Shakila was very serious.
Except for her soles and hair, all other body parts were burnt.
Because she suffered more than 90 per cent burn injuries, all tissues were infected and she suffered multiple organ failure.
It could not be said for sure whether it was homicidal, accidental or suicidal, Dr Palin said.
Earlier on August 6, this reporter talked with Fakirudin at RIMS.
There Fakiruddin said that Shakila got burnt because she was doused with kerosene.
But he was not sure, Fakiruddin said.
He added that he and his wife never quarrelled.
However, Shakila's parental family of Lilong Chaobok Maren Khul particularly her elder sister said that Shakila had returned to them.
According to Shakila, Fakiruddin used to consume liquor besides abusing drugs (tablets).
After staying for a few days at home, Fakiruddin came and took away Shakila on the assurance that he would not take drugs or alcohol in future.
It is not logical that not a single article kept in the same room caught fire while Shakila got 90 per cent burns if it was a case of accident, said the elder sister.
She also urged authorities concerned to take up befitting action against Fakiruddin.
