Explicit contents on WhatsApp group: Two held

Imphal, June 16 2021: Chief Judicial Magistrate Imphal West on Wednesday remanded two youths to 4 days police custody till June 19 for allegedly uploading sexually explicit contents in a WhatsApp group.

The accused Konjenbam Karorchandra Khaba (27), s/o Ibotombi of Kongkham Makha Leikai Nambol and Abujam Shatyajit 27, s/o Manaoton of Changangei Maning Leikai were arrested from their respective residences by a team of Cyber Crime Police Station Manipur yesterday evening.

The duo was produced before the Court of Chief Judicial Magistrate Imphal West through video conferencing along with a prayer for 4 days police custody remand.

The IO of the case through APP submitted that on June 14 a staff of the social media monitoring team of Cyber Crime Police Station came across a Facebook page Kanglei Imagi...Nupising (some letters deleted for ethical reasons) uploaded obscene photos of women including Manipuris with an indecent caption in the said group.

It is also found that some members / followers of the said Facebook page were uploading their mobile numbers on the page for creating a WhatApp group.

The said Whatapp group was created to upload pornographic photos and videos.

During the course of investigation, two accused Konjenbam Karorchandra Khaba and Abujam Shatyajit who are alleged to be active members of the group were arrested.

Saying that the accused are still concealing certain facts of the case which may lead to identification of the WhatsApp group admin as well as the person who uploaded the link on the Facebook page, the IO prayed for remanding the duo to police custody for smooth investigation of the case.

The Court after hearing the submission of the IO and on perusal of the case record placed before the Court remanded the accused to police custody till June 19 .
