Imphal, December 01 2015:
Even as the internal election process for BJP Manipur Pradesh has been completed at the district and mandal levels, the question of electing a new president still remains quite fuzzy which has reportedly thrown a spanner to the party's campaign for the Municipal Council and Nagar Panchayat election scheduled in January.
Some BJP workers said that new district/mandal bodies have not been formed even though due election process has been completed as it remains undecided whether a new president would be elected or the tenure of the incumbent president be extended.
With the newly elected office bearers yet to be inducted, all the district level and mandal level organisations remain dysfunctional.
The party can carry out its campaign for the Municipal Council and Nagar Panchayat election only after the question of electing a new president is settled and the newly elected office bearers of district level and mandal level organisations are inducted.
In the absence of such a settled situation, many supporters and workers have been caught in a state of confusion, they said.
It remains a big question how BJP can fight the local body election if either a new president is elected or the term of incumbent president Th Chaoba is extended.
There are many technical problems in fighting an election without the party's leader.
As such, the party need to resolve all internal disputes regarding election of a new president, they asserted.
Although BJP has been fielding 291 candidates for the Municipal Council and Nagar Panchayat election, no formal election campaign has been launched yet, they added .
