Imphal, May 15, 2013:
All barbers who overcharged the normal haircut rate were summoned and convinced not to charge more than the Government fixed rate by All Manipur Students' Union (AMSU) today.
In a press conference held at its headquarters, AMSU secretary general Romen Leishangthem said, any barber who charges more than the fixed rate must be held accountable for any eventuality.
He added that 10 barbers were found overcharging normal haircut rate during inspection drives conducted by AMSU at North AOC, Sangakpham, Deulahlane and Babupara.
All the barbers were summoned and convinced not to charge more than the fixed rate, he added.
The current rate was announced on October 19, 2010 by the State Government through an order issued by Deputy Labour Commissioner.
Although, the rate was revised on December 28, 2012, Deputy Labour Commissioner invalidated the revised rate by issuing a fresh order on April 22 this year.
Following the order, AMSU had a joint meeting with All Manipur Barber Association (AMBA) on April 20 last.
In the said meeting, AMBA representatives agreed to charge the earlier rate, he added.
However, some barbers have started over charging haircut rate violating the agreement arrived between AMBA and AMSU, Romen said and added that such barbers must be responsibility for any future eventuality.
