Thong Nambonbi to be restored to its original state : Jayantakumar

Art and Culture Minister L Jayantakumar has assured that experts will arrive to restore Thong-Nambonbi to its original state at the earliest.
Speaking to media persons during the release of a calendar published by the Department of Art and Culture at Old Secretariat today, the Minister said that Thong Nambonbi is an old structure and no cement was used in its construction.
He then conveyed that the bridge had been cordoned off for some time and a team from the Archaeological Survey of India even came and examined the bridge in the past (before it broke apart) .
Back then, the experts had suggested that as the bridge is a protected site, no cement or iron should be used in restoring the bridge, he informed.
When Thong Nambonbi broke down, the Department immediately informed the authorities concerned at the Centre and as such, experts will soon arrive in Manipur to restore the bridge to its original condition, the Minister added.
Jayantakumar said that a super structure is being constructed near BOAT, Palace Compound, for Manipur State Kala Akademi.
The Minister further mentioned that the Government will also develop the 3 museums inside Kangla as well.
Art and Culture Commissioner M Joy, Director A Shivadas Sharma and Joint Director L Keshorjit were also present.
