School kids treated to copter rides

This year's Children's Day was a memorable day for students of Government schools as they were given the rare opportunity of flying in helicopter.
The initiative taken up under the leadership of Education Minister Thokchom Radheshyam in collaboration with the Department of School Education and the State Transport Department started today at the Bir Tikendrajit International Airport.
The helicopter ride will be continued till November 22, 2019.Speaking to media persons, Th Radheshyam said that the 'Helicopter Ride' was initiated as an innovative step to inspire students to learn and know more about the State.
The winners of the competition held at zonal or district levels are those going for the helicopter ride after meeting Chief Minister N Biren Singh at the CM's Secretariat.
Thirty students from three zones � Imphal East, Imphal West and Wangoi took the helicopter ride on the first day.
Radheshyam stated that the competitions were held in two categories for students from Classes IV-VIII under all the 17 Zonal Education Officers (ZEO).
The competitions were taken up to help students explore and understand the State better.
It was organized by the ZEOs concerned in their respective districts or zones on the theme 'Know Your State' in different literary activities of extempore speech, quiz and story telling.
He explained that the helicopter ride has been scheduled for seven days after dividing the students in two to three groups per day.
Each "Helicopter Ride" is of 25 minutes duration.
The ride witnessed the majestic view of Loktak Lake, Keibul Lamjao National Park, Moirang and a portion of Imphal.
Accommodation for those students coming from the hill districts and Jiribam are being arranged by the Department of Education (S) at Residential School, Uripok.
Each zone comprising of eleven representatives, nine students, one teacher or guide and one representative of ZEO will ride the helicopter for seven days.
He expressed that the helicopter ride will help in realizing dreams of many students of riding a helicopter and enjoy panoramic view of the State.
The Minister said that the aim of the "Helicopter Ride" is to provide a rare opportunity to the students of Government Schools under the Department of Education (Schools) to explore and understand the beautiful landscape and landmarks of the State in a unique way.
The Minister was accompanied by Commissioner, Education (S) Kh Raghumani Singh, Director, Education (S) Th Kirankumar and officials concerned.
