Imphal, June 14 2014 :
A total of 25 villages located within Kakching A/C have been enlisted under Tengnoupal A/C even though there has been no delimitation exercise.
This implies that the 25 villages have been shifted from Thoubal district to Chandel district.
Speaking to media persons at Manipur Press Club this afternoon, Joint Non-Government Voluntary Organisation (JNGVO), Kakching president Kshetrimayum Biren asked the Government as to how the 25 villages were enlisted under Tengnoupal A/C when there was no delimitation exercise.
Tuisini, Maringphai, Salemphai, Khurakthil, Khunbi Tuisen, Kangoi Khunou, Khukarthil, L Phaijang, Teraphai, Beauralam, A Kombirei, A Tampak, A Khedamphai, A Chingnunghut, A Khullen, A Khunjao, A Chandonpokpi, A Saitu, Molnom, SP Saichang, Zion, Molnoi, H Wajang, H Kotlenphai and L Sijang villages were included within Kakching A/C till 1994 .
But today these villages have been found enlisted under Tengnoupal A/C.Quoting the Revenue Minister's statement given in the State Assembly in 2011, Biren said that 36 villages where signboards were put up indicating Chandel district were really within Thoubal district.
The Revenue Minister also instructed the Thoubal DC to conduct an enquiry and erase the words 'Chandel district' from the village signboards located within Thoubal district but no follow up action was taken up.
Admitting that they removed some signboards embossed with the words 'Chandel district' from some areas of Thoubal district, Biren said that they did not vandalize any properties nor asked any body to leave their villages.
But it was made clear that no part of Thoubal district should be wrongly indicated as Chandel district in any signboard or hoarding.
People of Kakching and surrounding areas have been living together in harmony.
For whatever happened recently, the State Government and the Deputy Commissioners of Thoubal and Chandel districts should be held accountable as they refused to act despite repeated appeals and reminders, Biren said.
He also expressed keen desire to keep boundaries of Chandel and Thoubal districts distinctly without any ambiguity and free from any controversy.
