Richana showcases Manipur's textiles, designs

A thousand crowds cheered and applauded as models walked the ramp with textiles and hand woven designer wears of North East India at the cultural event on Saturday evening in New Delhi .
Richana Khumanthem, an alumni of the National Institute of Fashion Technology and Nottingham Trent University in UK, showcased her collection of "SHE" an Autumn - Winter collection which she says is an ode to the fierce femme of pure unadulterated emotion inside every women.
Another collection under the brand "BACK" a spring - summer collection presents simplicity and going back to basic and expression of a free spirit.

Indigenous handloom and handicraft that were hand woven fabrics are the backbone of the brand.
According to Richana her brand's pledge is to establish lasting relationships with its clients by not only supplying high quality, or a statement pieces, but engaging them with the beautiful culture and tradition.
The strength of the brand - "Khumanthem" lies in its ability to give indigenous textiles a fresh breath of life through the presentation of the same in a unique and modern context.
Its strength therefore, also lies in local artisans, and the woman folk of Manipur in particular, to whom the indigenous craftsmanship was handed down from generation to generation.
Compared to other Indian textiles, the hand loom industry of Manipur is still in its nascent stage.
The brand has the advantage of being a pioneer in introducing this beautiful handloom heritage to the world of fashion, said Richana.
Her work and collections strictly adheres to its "No To Plastic " policy.
Every piece is hand-woven by local artisan, Richana asserted.
Richana believes in authenticity, uniqueness and that her work is not for "mass production".
Her style statement is that every piece of indigenous handloom has a story to tell.
It is in these stories, behind every motif, every textile, that will ultimately be the binding force between the artisans and consumers, not as two separate strata of the same glamour industry, but as one entity who understands, feels and cherishes the depth and history behind every handloom creation.
The fashion show, held in collaboration with National Institute of Fashion Technology and Ministry of Textiles was one was one of the main attraction of three day mega event "Destination North - East 2016" organized by Ministry of DoNER.
