Governor, CM, others greet on Chaoren Houba

Governor V Shanmuganathan and Chief Minister Okram Ibobi have greeted the people of the State on the occasion of Mera Chaoren Houba.
In his message, the Governor said, "I am hopeful that the festival will strengthen the bond of unity and integrity among different communities and usher in peace and prosperity in the State" .
He said that Mera Chaoren Houba is a traditional festival of Manipur and it is celebrated on the advent of Mera-Tha (September-October) .
People celebrate the festival with religious fervour and gaiety while the festival also promotes unity and integrity amongst all the communities settled in the State, the Governor said.
He further said that over the ages, the festival has come to signify unity and integrity of the people in the State.
V Shanmuganathan said, "Let us celebrate the festival in its true spirit and preserve the age-old tradition of peaceful co-existence of all communities in the State" .
In his message, Okram Ibobi said, "May this festival strengthen further the age-old traditions of peaceful co-existence and harmony in the pluralistic society of Manipur and bring peace and prosperity to the State" .
He said that the traditional festival of Mera Chaoren Houba, heralding the advent of Mera, a month in Meetei lunar calendar, aims at preserving and promoting unity and integrity among all sections of the people in Mani- pur.
Manipur People's Party (MPP) also extended greeting to the people of the State on the occasion of Mera Chaoren Houba.
