CM to launch anti-plastic campaign today

Chief Minister N Biren is set to launch a campaign against single-use plastics tomorrow as a part of the Sewa Saptaha which would be observed from September 14 to 20 to celebrate the birthday of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
A ban on single use plastics has also been announced from October 2 this year by the BJP led Government at New Delhi while Nagaland has set October 1 as the deadline.
Speaking to media persons today, BJP Manipur Pradesh president in-charge Salam Joy said that blood donation camp, medical camp, eye testing and operation camp would be organised as a part of the Sewa Saptaha function apart from distributing several items of utility at hospitals, institutes and orphanages.
Informing that many committees have been constituted at the State and district level to ensure that the Sewa Saptaha is celebrated successfully, Salam Joy said that a programme under which 10 to 100 differently abled persons would be provided free education will be launched during the week-long celebration in association with rich citizens of the State.
Extensive awareness programmes on the life and works of Narendra Modi would be organised at mandal and kendra levels.
Altogether 160 machines for crushing empty plastic bottles have been installed at 128 railway stations of the country, he said.
In view of the serious environmental pollution caused by non-biodegradable plastic wastes, a series of awareness programmes on avoiding plastics as far as possible would be organised during the week long celebration, said the president in-charge.
Free medical camps, blood donation camps, eye testing and operation camps would be organised at RIMS, JNIMS, district hospitals, CHCs and PHCs.
At the same time, awareness programmes on single-use plastics would be organised at schools and colleges.
It is said that Chief Minister N Biren would open the Sewa Saptaha celebration at the Canchipur office of BJP Manipur Pradesh tomorrow.
Notably, September 17 is the birthday of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
