NMBA: Many take pledge against drug abuse

As part of the Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav to Commemorate 75, years of India's Independence, hundreds of school students yesterday took pledge against substance abuse in Kangpokpi district.
The event was organised by the Zonal Education Office as part of the Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyaan (NMBA) of the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment, Government of India.
The pledge was administered to students of Hengbung High School, Keithelmanbi Government High School, Chalwa High School and Gangpijang UJB School.
The ceremony was conducted to strengthen action and cooperation in achieving the goal of a sustainable world free of substance abuse.
KAKCHING
As part of NMBA, hundreds of school students also took pledge against substance abuse yesterday in Kakching district.
During the programme organised by Zonal Education Office Kakching, pledges were administered to students of different schools to make Kakching a drug free district.
PHERZAWL
To intensify the NMBA as part of Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav, pledge against Drug Abuse was organised in schools under ZEO Pherzawl District.
The pledge was administered by Huai Sian Mawi, APO (RTE), District Nodal Officer/Pherzawl through all Prin-cipals/Headmasters of Government & Private Schools.
Speaking on the occasion, Hemchand Yumnam, ZEO Pherzawl District cautioned that drug addiction is an issue of serious concern, especially among the youths.
He also mentioned that drug abuse has detrimental impacts not only on the individual but on the society as a whole.
SENAPATI
As per the instruction of Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment, Directorate of University & Higher Education Manipur, National Service Scheme in collaboration with IQAC of Don Bosco College (Autonomous) Maram organised a pledge taking ceremony yesterday during the morning assembly.
Students along with 90 staff and principal, viceprincipals took oath/ pledge by saying "Yes to Life, No to Drugs".
The management also encouraged the students to help the community, family and friends to make the country drug-free.
THOUBAL
As part of Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav, hundreds of school students took pledge against substance abuse in Thoubal district under the Zonal Education Office.
NYK Thoubal also organised NMBA at the NYK multipurpose hall.
Moreover, as part of NMBA, Sofia English School Thoubal also organised a pledge taking ceremony yesterday at the school campus.
Ak Jugeshwor, headmaster of the school led the teaching & non teaching staff and students in taking the drug free pledge.
Students and staff of Waikhom Mani Girls College also took the pledge against drug abuse today.
The pledge against drugs was led by Prof H Manoranjan Sharma.
ASSAM RIFLES
As part of NMBA, Khoupum Battalion under the aegis of IGAR (South) conducted an awareness lecture on drug abuse at Lamdangmei village, Noney district yesterday.
The lecture was organised to spread awareness about social, mental, physical and psychological effects of drug abuse, said a statement of IGAR(S).
The lecture was followed by an interactive session in which queries raised by locals were answered.
Shangshak Battalion also conducted a similar lecture to mark the International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking on August 12.The battalion also reached out to students of Indira Gandhi Hill Flower School and youth of Mongkot Chepu village of Ukhrul district.
