Imphal, July 13 2021:
All assistance provided towards combating the pandemic is humanitarian service and this should not be politicised.
Langthabal AC MLA Karam Shyam said this while inspecting a mass vaccination camp organised by Asem Leikai Development Club, Kakwa in coordination with National Health Mission, Manipur today at the office of the club.
Speaking at the onset of the event, the majority of 178 people who were kept at Community Home Isolation Centre (CHIC) opened at Standard Robarth School have recovered and discharged.
However, there have also been some issues where some inmates were removed from the CHIC to be kept at other Covid Care Centres or hospitals by some people with different political views, he added.
He also added that it is also very unfortunate that some people had also prevented inmates who have recovered completely and discharged from the facility from entering their homes.
Such incidents are caused by people viewing the pandemic and the humanitarian service from a narrow political lens, he added.
In addition to this, videos of relief items being thrown and destroyed were circulated on social media.
The relief items were part of the campaign launched to provide some measure of relief to the 12000 families in Langthabal AC, but such reckless wastage of relief items which could have fed families in need was really unfortunate, he added.
530 individuals were vaccinated at the mass vaccination camp held today.
Karam Shyam also handed over a sum of rs 10,000/- to the members of the club to aid in their fight against the pandemic.
