NIA nets three in ethnic violence cases

Imphal, May 13 2025:
The National Investigation Agency (NIA) has arrested three members of armed organisations in two separate cases linked to the violence that occurred in the state in 2023 and 2024 .
According to an NIA statement accessed Tuesday, in the first case, one Waikhom Rohit Singh of Thoubal Pakhangkhong Leirak was arrested for his role in murder and abduction of civilians during the ethnic clashes in 2023 .
Rohit, described as a cadre of KCP-PWG, is accused of involvement in the conspiracy and execution of a brutal crime.
The incident occurred in November 2023, when a CRPF team stopped a Bolero vehicle in Kangchup Chingkhong area, Imphal West.
Five individuals from one community were found inside.
A mob from the rival group overpowered the forces and abducted four individuals.
Three of them were later found dead.
Rohit has been remanded to judicial custody following completion of NIA remand.
In a separate case, NIA arrested two accused involved in the killing of a woman and arson and looting in Zairawn village, Jiribam district, in November 2024 .
The arrested individuals are Nongthombam Meiraba of Bishnupur, cadre of an armed outfit, who allegedly shot the victim Zosangkim, and Sagolsem Sanatomba alias Surchandra Singh alias Piba of Thoubal, a KYKL member.
Both are in NIA custody till May 17 in connection with the case, the statement said.
NIA, which took over the investigations following directions from the Ministry of Home Affairs, said further investigations are ongoing in both cases.
