Imphal, March 13 2025:
The Kuki Zo-Council (KZC) has called off its indefinite shutdown, which began on March 8 midnight, in response to the Centre's peace initiative allowing free movement across the State.
KZC, in a statement signed by its information secretary Khaikhohauh Gangte, said that the decision to end the shutdown effective 7.30 pm today comes after careful deliberation.
The council, however, said that the free movement, as announced by the Home Ministry shall be vehemently opposed by the Kuki-Zo people, 'as it undermines and dilutes the justice process' .
Until justice is duly served for the Kuki-Zo people, any move toward unrestricted free movement will be vigorously opposed, KZC added.
The council also said that they are committed to honour the sacrifices of its martyrs, including Lalgouthang Singsit, by achieving justice and a separate political administration for the Kuki-Zo people.
It appealed to all relevant authorities to recognize and respect their demands and work towards a peaceful resolution that will bring justice and security to the Kuki-Zo people.
The council, meanwhile, said that Lalgouthang Singsit, who was killed in the violent incident in Kangpokpi on March 8 has been laid to rest at Phaijang, Sadar Hills.
"His martyrdom will not go in vain, and we pledge to continue the struggle for justice and dignity on behalf of all Kuki-Zo people," it said.
