Kite festival

A kite festival which symbolises hill-valley fraternity would be held at Pari-Puri Pukkei Eco-Tourism Centre, Chingnungkhok Pao-Khul-Chingol near Tellou on January 18 .
The kite festival would be organised by the Manipur Kite Club under the sponsorship of Pari-Puri Pukkei Eco-Tourism Centre.
The festival would also feature dog show, kite demo and cultural programmes of different communities.
Speaking to media persons at the eco-tourism centre, its president Ng Kangjiya and kite festival programme committee convenor L Ingocha said that they decided to organise the kite festival at the eco-tourism centre which is located at the hill-valley junction with a motive to demonstrate that hill people and plain people belong to the same genealogical family.
The festival would be held every year in the first week of January as a calendar event.
They went on to claim that the eco-tourism centre would be developed as a tourism centre.
The living museum have replicas of the traditional houses and attires of all the 35 recognised tribes of Manipur as well as other unrecognised tribes.
The museum would also have a model of Meitei traditional house which have nine rooms and thatched roof in addition to installing replicas of the Kangla, Loktak Lake and Koubru hills.
They also sought Government assistance for development of the eco-tourism centre.
It is reported that around 200 competitors would take part in the first ever kite festival.
Seven different types of kite including those flown by Manipuri ancestors would be exhibited at the festival.
Interested people may buy any of these kites which would be priced between Rs 100 and Rs 1000, they added.
