Imphal, December 12 2012:
Terming the decision of KSDC not to allow ASEAN Car Rally to pass through Kuki-inhabited areas to press the demand for a separate Kuki State, Deputy CM, Gaikhangam, who is also in charge of Home Department, has assured that the car rally would be made to pass through the State peacefully.
Addressing a press conference at the office of MPCC here today, Gaikhangam said that the issue of Kukis has already been talked and decisions have been made accordingly.
Since the State Government has nothing to do with the demand of the Kukis, the matter has been referred to the Union Government, which too has made it clear that the issue would be discussed soon after the ongoing Parliament session.
He said that since KSDC has decided to carry on its agitation, the State Govt will under no circumstance remain silent.
It will see what can be done and efforts would also be made to resume talk.
However, blocking ASEAN Car Rally to pass through the state, where a number of foreign participants would be taking part, is not reasonable at all.
Moreover, since the indefinite blockade called by the KSDC falls during the Christmas season, it would only make the people, especially the Christian community, suffer.
The Home Minister stated that the necessary legal actions would be taken up against the agitators if any untoward incident happens during the course of the rally.
The govt still considers KNO as a signatory of SoO agreement and since all the SoO signatories have agreed not to disturb the territorial integrity of Manipur, it is assumed that the Kuki UG groups would not bring up any issue relating to disintegration of Manipur.
