Imphal, October 12 2015:
JD-U Manipur unit has once again demanded raising of highway protection force in order to safeguard National highways leading to Manipur.
Speaking to media persons at their Babupara office today, JD-U Manipur unit president M Tombi alleged that BJP Ministers and leaders are only good at paying lip service.
Even though the BJP Government at the Centre is on the verge of completing 18 months, nothing substantial has been done for the State of Manipur.
Transporters have been facing all kinds of difficulties on the two National Highways connecting Imphal with other parts of the country.
Even militant groups under SoO pact have been committing all kinds of criminal activities on the highways but the Government has been acting mute and blind, he alleged.
Both the Union Government as well as the State Government have been paying little attention even though there have been numerous cases of robbery and harassment of transporters on highways.
Even if the Union Government is not in favour of deployment of security forces along the two National Highways, the State Government need to ponder and act accordingly.
Asking as to why the Manipur State Road Transport Cooperation was abolished, M Tombi demanded a white paper on MSRTC's complex located in Nagaland.
He said that two individuals constructed shops and workshops at the Nagaland MSRTC complex and started collecting rents.
Tombi then questioned with whose permission the two individuals were constructing shops/workshops and collecting rents.
He also demanded immediate revival of MSRTC.
JD-U Manipur general secretary Lien Gangte remarked on the way BJP Ministers were received at airport and added that the BJP office has always projected their official visits as personal visit to the party's Manipur branch.
Since the BJP came to power at the Centre, Central funding for the North East region has been slashed drastically, he decried and added that nothing has been done for Manipur after the BJP came to power at Delhi.
