Bazar bandh effective

Khwai-ramband markets, shops and establishments at Paona Bazar and Thangal bazar remained closed today to protest the visit of Chairman of Joint Intelligence Committee, Government of India and Interlocutor for Naga peace talks, RN Ravi in the State today.
The 24-hour bazar area bandh imposed by women vendors of three Ima Keithels and Khwairamband bazar temporary market shed came into full force today with shops and other establishments at Paona and Thangal bazar suspending their business for the day.
Emergency and other essential services were, however, exempted from the bandh.
Pharmacies remained open and public transportations continued.
Speaking to media persons, Thingujam Rani Devi, vendor at Khwairamband market said the Government of India has been keeping the public in the dark regarding the contents of the framework agreement signed with the NSCN(IM) on August 3 .
Any framework that could harm the territorial integrity of the State would be decried by the people, Rani stated.
In the meantime, bandh supporters took out a drive to ensure all the markets, shops and establishments in the market area remained closed during the bandh.
Few shops and stalls along Wahengbam Leikai were forced to shut down for the day.
Meanwhile, bandh supporters burnt liquors seized from a woman vendor along Wahengbam Leikai during the drive.
