Imphal, June 11 2012:
Education Minister M Oken's proposal to make children of Government employees study in Government schools is most likely to run into steep hurdles.
As a part of the series of measures announced by M Oken since he became the Education Minister towards reviving the dying Government schools, Oken had stated that an official order may be issued which would make it mandatory for all Government employees to send their children to Government schools.
As of now, the Government has not made any instruction to issue such an order, informed a source in the Education Department.

There is a legal provision under which private schools can be established.
Moreover, it is a fundamental right of all students to study in any school of their choice, whether it is Government school or private school.
It would be highly problematic to issue any order against this fundamental right.
As such, the Minister's plan to make it compulsory for all Govt employees to send their children to Govt schools is likely to run into stiff opposition, added the source.
