Bishnupur police seize gambling materials

In a specific drive to check gambling activities in the run-up to the Diwali and Ningol Chakkouba festivals, Bishnupur police have reportedly seized a huge number of dice materials and illicit liquor, both country-made and IMFL.
Displaying the seized items to media at Bishnupur district police headquarters this morning prior to destroying the same by burning, Additional SP M Rameshwor said the drive launched before the Diwali festival formally concluded yesterday.
The drive launched under the aegis of SP (Bishnupur) Th Radheshyam is said to have led to the seizure of 118 sets of dice, 86 drops and 96 dice boards.
Stating that the drive aimed at preventing unwanted incidents during the festivals received overwhelming cooperation from the district denizens, Rameshwor opined that timely action by the police ensured incident-free celebration of the festivals.
He further confided that for smooth conduct of the upcoming Sangai Tourism Festival here, Bishnupur district police have taken up necessary measures at the district.
As part of the security measures, all types of vehicles including those transporting vegetables to the State capitals from Churachandpur, Moirang and Kumbi in the morning hours are being thoroughly checked, said the ASP while appealing to all concerned to bear inconveniences caused to the people.
