Imphal, March 10 2021:
Celebrating the 4 years of achievements made by the current Government, Minister for Social Welfare and MAHUD Henry Okram flagged off a weeklong Cleanliness Drive with awareness on ban of single use plastic at Khwairamband Keithel today.
The cleanliness drive was organized by District Administration, Imphal West in collaboration with MAHUD Department.
On the occasion, Henry Okram urged the people to extend their support and cooperation for the successful implementation of various welfare initiatives taken up by the Government.
He stressed that a collective effort and dedication is the need of the hour to make the city or town clean.
He mentioned that the motive of the awareness campaign is to sensitize the public about the effects and consequences of single use plastics on the environment.
The Minister added that competitions will be held every year among the Municipal Councils/Corporations and Wards of each Council/Corporations for their service rendered to the citizens and towards creating cleaner cities/towns.
Rankings will be given based on their performances, he added.
Mayor (IMC) Lokeshwor, Principal Secretary (MAHUD) PK Singh, Commissioner (RD&PR) Nidhi Kesarwani, DC (Imphal West) Naorem Praveen, SP (Imphal West) K Meghachandra, Director (MAHUD) Th Harikumar and others were present at the function.
Similar cleanliness drives were also held in Imphal East district with Khumanthem Diana Devi, DC, Imphal East launching the drive from Sanjenthong with teams of SP Imphal East and PHED, Imphal East division.
During the cleanliness drive in Imphal East participated by staffs of various Government departments, a total of 7999.28 kg of plastic wastes were collected and deposited at the ground near Imphal East Employment Exchange which will be collected later.
