Imphal, February 10 2025:
Expressing concern over a disturbing incident in which Kuki individuals were seen brandishing sophisticated weapons during a football match, the Meitei Alliance has urged the Government to launch a full-scale security operation against 'Kuki terrorist organizations' that are violating National security laws.
In a letter to Union Home Minister Amit Shah, the Alliance highlighted the alarming nature of the event, which they believe has serious implications for the safety and security of the region.
The recent viral video showing 'armed Kuki National Front (KNF) militants' openly brandishing sophisticated weapons on a football field is a shocking display of lawlessness and impunity, the Alliance said.
Listing a series of demands, the Alliance urged the Government to declare Kuki armed groups as terrorist organisations apart from taking strict action against the KNF militants.
It also urged the Government to launch a full-scale security operation against Kuki terrorist organizations that are violating National security laws and hold the Central security forces accountable for their inaction if they fail to address these threats effectively, their deployment in Manipur should be reconsidered.
The Alliance also demanded a clear Government stance on dismantling terror networks operating under the pretence of ethnic grievances.
"We, the Meitei Alliance, write to you with deep concern regarding the escalating threat posed by Kuki terrorist organizations in Manipur, particularly considering the expiration of the Suspension of Operations (SoO) pact on February 29, 2024," the Alliance said in the opening paragraph of the letter to the Union Home Minister.
Saying that playing football by brandishing weapons is a reflection of the growing impunity which the Kuki militant groups enjoy, the Meitei Alliance claimed that Kuki militants continue to terrorise civilians, disrupt peace, and challenge the sovereignty of India.
Now that the SoO is no longer in effect, there is no justification for allowing these armed groups to operate with such brazenness, the Alliance said.
The Alliance went on to claim that the Kuki militants continue to operate unchecked despite the heavy deployment of Central security forces in Manipur.
The people of Manipur deserve peace, stability, and justice, the Alliance said and urged the Government to act decisively before the situation deteriorates further.
