Secretary of Adimjati Shiksha Ashram has been reportedly abducted by some unidentified persons from his Tangkhul Avenue residence in the afternoon yesterday.
The abducted Ashram secretary has been identified as Pungai Hungyo (69) of Bungba village but stating in Tangkhul Avenue here.
In protest against the abduction, the staff and inmates of the Ashram staged a sit-in-protest demonstration at the gate of the Ashram located at Chingmeirong Khongnang ani Karak today.
Placards inscribed with slogans like 'Stop abduction for ransom', 'We want peace', etc were used during the protest demonstration.
According to the authority of the Ashram, Pungai Hungyo was abducted on ransom demand by some unidentified persons who came to his house at around 1 pm yesterday.
Meanwhile, talking to The Sangai Express, information and publicity secretary of All College Tribal Students' Organisation of Manipur (ACTSOM) Pouringei Kamei said ACTSOM has taken serious note of the abduction which took place in broad daylight and considered it as a mockery to the SPF Government and its police forces.
Such incidents have been happening regularly.
Joining the inmates and staff of the Ashram in condemnation of the abduction, ACTSOM demanded the Government to immediately make an inquiry to find out the identity of the abductors and ensure safe release of the Ashram secretary from the clutches of his abductors.
The student body has also warned that launching a series of intense agitation if the Government fails to secure the release of the abducted persons and said that the Government should be held solely responsible for any untoward incident that may occur during the course of the agitation.
