Imphal, September 08 2022:
Some unidentified persons planted a powerful IED bomb weighing around 4 kilograms in front of Ward Development Committee office of Imphal Municipal Corporation at Singjamei Chingamakha Meisnam Leirak.
According to report culled from the spot, a message was sent to one Thokchom Tomba, husband of Ward number 16 Corporator about the planting of the bomb last night.
Soon after the message was recieved, the family members of the Corporator informed about bomb threat to police.
A team of Imphal West commando and bomb experts carried out a massive search to find the bomb using metal detectors.
The bomb was found fitted in a transparent plastic container at around 8 am.
After finding the bomb, the police team cordoned off the area and diverted all vehicles to alternative routes to prevent casualities.
MLA of Singjamei Assembly Constituency who is also holding the charge of MAHUD Yumnam Khemchand and Director General of Police P Doungel also arrived at the site and took stock of the situation.
Reportdly , the bomb was disposed at the spot where it was found at around 10.40 am as the experts could not defuse it by covering the surrounding areas using sand bags.
The impact of the explosion caused damage to some of the properties in the nearby areas such as GI sheet used as walls of the Ward Development office, glass windows of the nearby houses and the culvert in the adjacent area.
While checking the blast site after the disposal, the bomb experts team recovered some iron nails and small iron balls used as splinters of the IED.
Singjamei Police have registered a case and searched the nearby area to assure there were no other bombs before opening the traffic movement along the Chingamakha-Heirangoithong road stretch.
According to reports culled from the spot, the bomb might have been placed related to monteray demand as a particular underground outfit served a demand of Rs 10 lakh each to every Corporator of IMC some time back.
