Thoubal, June 08 2022:
At least five clubs in Lilong area have resolved to close the Thoubal MI Road indefinitely from June 12 onwards if the authority concerned does not resume the construction work of a bailey bridge over Thoubal River at Keibung by June 11 .
The resolution was taken during a sit-in protest jointly organised by five clubs-Unique Youth Development Association (UYDA), Keibung Youth Development Club, Keibung Wangmataba Social Development Organisation, Keibung Welfare Association and KWA & Development Centre for Health and Social Service at Keibung.
By the sideline of the protest demonstration, UYDA secretary Wahidur Rahaman claimed that the project being implemented to construct a bailey bridge over Thoubal River has been put on hold without giving any explanation to the people.
As per him, the project was implemented under RIDF Scheme 2020-21 on March 16 and the same is being supervised by the PWD Bridge Division.
Saying that the representatives of the five clubs had numerously apprised Chief Minister N Biren Singh, Works Minister Govindas Konthoujam, local MLA and Chief Engineer of PWD to complete the project in the larger interest of the people, he added that neither the State Government nor the authority concerned paid any heed to their demand.
He further stated that the five clubs and people residing near the project site have taken certain resolutions during a public meeting today.
Urging the State Govt to resume the project without further delay, Wahidur Rahaman asked the department and contractor concerned to take responsibility for all eventualities if the demand is not heeded.
Further stating that the Thoubal MI Road will be closed indefinitely from June 12 onwards if no positive response is given within three days, he appealed to all concerned to not shift the construction site under any circumstances.
Wahidur Rahaman also said that the construction site is in a shabby condition due to the recent heavy rainfall and urged the State Government to look into the matter at the earliest.
