Imphal, May 08 2024:
Even as the NCERT is facing flak with the Central Ministry of Education asking it to clarify for wrongfully attributing a Manipuri sport to Mizoram, Byju's has published wrongful information on Manipuri Jagoi (dance) on its website, said Kangleipak Indigenous Martial Arts and Cultural Society (KIMACS) .
The Byju's, which is reportedly India's largest ed-tech company, on its website, has wrongfully described "Guru Bipin" as the "father of Manipuri dance" .
Guru Bipin has been wrongfully mentioned as the correct answer for the question--Who is the father of Manipuri dance--on the website.
Similarly, a Facebook handle by the name "Manipur GK" has also published the wrong information describing "Guru Bipin" as the "father of Manipuri dance", said KIMACS secretary Leninsana speaking to reporters at the office of the organisation at Konung Mamang today.
"When the question should have been--Who is the father of Manipuri classical dance, it is a well known fact that Guru Amudon, Guru Amubi and Guru Tombi had founded the dance form," he said.
While the answer to the question is wrong, the question itself is not free of ambiguity, he added.
Manipuri dance may mean any form of dance belonging to the State.
Different communities in Manipur have different dance forms and styles.
The question should have been precise and mentioned classical to avoid ambiguity, Leninsana said.
Asserting that erroneous publication of information on Manipur may alter or distort the facts and history, and mislead people, Leninsana said the authorities concerned of the Government should look into it to rectify the errors and wrongful information.
Notably, this has surfaced even as the National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT) is facing heat for wrongfully attributing "Mukna-Kangjei"--a Manipuri indigenous game--to Mizoram in a textbook for students.
While the NCERT has been urged to rectify the error, the Department of School Education & Literacy, Central Ministry of Education has written to the Council on May 7 and sought a clarification.
