Heirok, December 07 2012:
Categorically pointing out that violence will not be able to solve any problem, Chief Minister Okram Ibobi Singh has urged upon every section of the society to contribute their mite in bringing peace and expedite overall development of Manipur.
Speaking as the chief guest at the 18th death anniversary of former Minister Moirangthem Ibotombi here today, Ibobi noting the masses' desire for return of peace in the State strongly denounced perpetrators of violence.
Reiterating that violence has no place in a civilised society and vehemently condemning continued incidents of violence, he pointed out that same as the general public the Government too is against individuals who misuse power and indulge in wanton killings.
Further affirming that the Government of Manipur is committed to protect public life and property, the CM asserted that the Government is making all efforts to check activities of anti-social elements.

While regretting that inspite of maximum effort to check anti-people activities such as extortion and intimidation such incidents continue to affect normal life of common citizens, he conceded that even though strong instructions are being given to exercise maximum restraint there might occur sporadic cases of law enforcing agents causing harm or injury to the common citizens while in trying to control a particular situation.
The Chief Minister also called upon all concerned to give up violence and come to the negotiating table as all outstanding problems could be resolved through dialogue in a peaceful manner.
Sharing the CM's sentiment, Deputy Chief Minister Gaikhangam also reminded that peaceful negotiation is the only way to settle all issues.
Stressing on the need to strengthen the emotional bond amongst various communities settled in Manipur for ages, Gaikhangam said Manipur can achieve the cherished goal of development through cooperation and peaceful co-existence.
Lamenting certain organisations misusing the Right to Information Act as a means for financial gains, he suggested that the legislation be made fully aware to the people of both the hills and valley areas in order to reap maximum benefit.
With regard to today's observance, Gaikhangam suggested that rather than remembering the visionary leader through such formal events, efforts need to be made by all concerned to ensure M Ibotombi's goals for public wellbeing and Manipur's development become a reality.
Earlier in the morning, the death anniversary observance began with religious rituals and offering of floral tributes at the portrait of M Ibotombi.
besides Speaker of Manipur Legislative Assembly Th Lokeshore, a number of Ministers, Parliamentary secretaries, MLAs, top ranking officials, religious leaders and people from cross section of the society were present at the occasion.
