Imphal, October 06 2013:
Decrying that the Board of Directors selected by milk societies spread across six districts has not been given any official power till date, the milk societies have threatened to stop distribution of milk in each and every district.
Speaking to media persons at Manipur Press Club here this afternoon, representatives of the milk producer societies said that the Manipur Milk Producers Cooperative Union Limited held a general body meeting on August 31 with the agenda of nominating a board of directors.
Subsequent upon the meeting, elections for board of directors of district level milk producer societies were held.
Through these elections, a 10-member board of directors was elected from four valley districts and two hill districts for the Manipur Milk Producers Cooperative Union Limited.
However, the board of directors is kept non-functional till date.
By keeping the board of directors non-functional, the Manipur Milk Producers Cooperative Union Limited is being deprived of an accountable authority to look after it.
In case the board of directors is not made functional by October 18, the district level milk producer societies would seek an alternative arrangement apart from stopping distribution of milk in the particular six districts, said the representatives.
