Imphal, August 06 2024:
Around 161 loaded POL and LPG tankers which left Jiribam for Imphal this morning with CRPF escorts have been stranded near Kaimai.
Notably, movement of POL and LPG tankers resumed only today after the Consortium of Manipur Petroleum Products Transporters Fraternity called off their cease work strike following an agreement with the Government.
As the convoy of loaded POL and LPG tankers headed for Imphal, it was delayed near Kaiphundai by landslide.
After the highway was cleared, the convoy moved forward but it was halted again near Kaimai by landslide.
Incidentally, it was at Kaimai village where Kuki militants attacked a convoy of POL tankers and LPG bullets on April 16, 2024 .
After waiting for several hours, the CRPF escorts and the drivers realised that it would not be possible to clear the highway today.
As the area was vulnerable to attacks from Kuki militants as witnessed on April 16, the convoy turned around and moved back around 5 Kms.
The drivers, helpers and the security escorts would halt the night there, sources said.
If the highway can be cleared tomorrow, the convoy will move forward to Imphal tomorrow itself, the sources added.
