Nongthongbam Ajay claimed innocence during an examination of the Irom Roger murder case today at Session Court, Imphal West and fixed November 28 for the argument hearing of the trial case.
The alleged accused Nongthongbam Ajay s/o former Minister and present spokesperson of BJP Manipur Pradesh Nongthongbam Biren of Luwangshangbam appeared before the Court along with his counsel.
The last prosecution witness from the side of CBI deposed their statement before the Court on September 9.Altogether 187 questions were asked to the accused by the Court yet he claimed himself innocent.
After examining the questions, the prosecution counsel and the defence counsel agreed to put the questions to the alleged accused.
Thus the examination was held under 313 CrPC.
The accused as well as his counsel submitted that no witnesses for defence will be produced and fixed November 28 for the argument hearing of the session trial.
It may be mentioned that some days after the day light murder of Irom Roger by the accused N Ajay during Holi festival in 2011, the State Cabinet adopted a decision to hand over the case to CBI for investigation.
Subsequently, CBI registered a case under section 302/34 and 27 Arms Act, investigated the murder and later submitted a charge sheet before the Court along with a list of 70 witnesses from the prosecution side in 2012 and a charge was framed against the prime accused before the Imphal "Special Court CBI" in June 2012. Four other associates who were allegedly involved in the case were discharged by the Session Court, Imphal West in May 2012 as sufficient evidence could not be collected against the four associates of the prime accused namely Soram Raju of Nagamapal Soram Leirak, Bachaspati Mayum Roshinikumar Sharma alias Tolly of Brahmapur Thangapat Mapal, Thongbam Anilkumar alias Dhurba of Thangmeiband Meisnam Leikai and Puyam Sidhartha alias Boy of Singjamei Mayengbam Leikai Oinam Thingel.
It may also be mentioned that Irom Roger s/o Irom Lokendro was allegedly shot to death after a road rage along Tiddim Road after the victim who was driving an i20 car was overtaken by a Bolero Jeep at Ghari opposite KT Girls Hostel under Singjamei police station, Imphal West.
