Imphal, November 05:
The Supreme Court has given authority to the Manipur Human Rights Commission to ensure that the guidelines given by the apex court regarding issue of arrest memos and other related issues are being followed, by the state, commission sources said.
The landmark judgement was passed on October 19 by a three-member bench of the Supreme Court headed by Chief Justice AS Anand (now retired) along with Justice N Santosh Hedge and Justice Anjit Pasayat.
This followed complaints that the directives laid down by the Supreme Court were not being implemented.
The directives include issue of arrest memo at the time of arrests, mandatory medical check-ups in the interest of the arrestees and to minimize custodial violences, the sources said.
