Imphal, August 05 2013:
Even as the new session for MBBS/ BDS course started on August 1 at the Regional Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS), the State's share of beneficiary quota remains unfilled due to the indecision of the authority concerned regarding the conduct of State PMT.
The State's share of quota at RIMS is 30 for MBBS course and 13
for BDS course.
Director of RIMS, Prof S Sekharjit Singh told The Sangai Express that the beneficiary quotas of other States at the institute are almost filled except for Manipur and Meghalaya.
Out of 100 seats available at RIMS, 15 is reserved for all India quota while the remaining 85 seats are reserved for candidates from NE States as State beneficiary quotas.
Among these, 13 seats each are reserved for Meghalaya and Tripura, seven each for Arunachal Pradesh and Mizoram, 10 seats for Nagaland and five for Sikkim.
Mizoram, Nagaland, Sikkim and Tripura have already filled their respective allotments while seats reserved for Manipur and Meghalaya remained unfilled.
Counselling for seven out of fifteen candidates from All India quotas has already been conducted, Prof Shekharjit said.
According to the RIMS Director, the total seats available for BDS at RIMS is 50.Out of this, seven is reserved for All India quota while the rest is reserved as State Beneficiary quotas.
Against four seats reserved for Arunachal Pradesh, one seat has been filled and two out of four for Mizoram has been filled while Nagaland and Sikkim have already filled their share of five and three seats respectively.
"I heard that the Govt is all set to conduct the State PMT," the RIMS Director said though he is not cocksure about the matter.
However, he dispelled the apprehension that students may loss an academic year.
He said arrangement would be made for students who make late entry so that they can catch up for classes they missed.
