Seminar on Muslim women held

A one-day seminar cum workshop on 'Muslim Women: Opportunities and Challenges' was organised by Manipur State Minorities Commission at Classic Hotel today.
Minorities and Other Backward classes Minister Md Alaudin Khan and Commission Chairperson IAS (Retd) A Halim Choudhury attended the inaugural session as the chief guest and functional president respectively while Ministry of Minorities Affairs' Deputy Secretary MA Imam and Principal Secretary (Labour & Employment) AR Khan graced the occasion as the guests of honour.
The first technical session was held with Buddhist member of the Commission Ven Panthaw Paa (Prof MS ningomba) as the moderator with the Commission's Christian member Rev N Devendra as the moderator.
MA Imam, who presented a paper on 'Research and survey in formulating planning processes on the welfare of minorities' elaborated on the research, survey and analysis with regard to various schemes implemented by the Government for the welfare of the minorities.
As part of the event, a thematic photo exhibition was inaugurated by the chief guest in addition to screening of a documentary film entitled 'Hello Mother', which chronicled issues related to Muslim women in Manipur.
In his address, Md Alaudin Khan, who is also the Rural Development and Panchayati Raj Minister asserted that both the Central and State Government are committed to uplift status of the minorities, with particular emphasis in the higher education of minority girl students.
While noting that girl students from the minority communities are gradually figuring among the best in the country, the Minister also called upon all concerned for more concerted effort to ensure participation of the women belonging to the minority section of the society in social, economic and academic activities.
Highlighting that only through education the problem of backwardness could be mitigated, he assured that gathering that all possible measures would be taken from his personal side for implementation of the seminar recommendations.
