Free taxi service adds edge to Covid fight

True to their spirit, the Volunteers of Disaster Relief Forum (VDRF), Manipur, under its initiative Covid Response Fund has launched the 2nd phase of free taxi service for Covid testing at Kakching.
Superintendent of Police, Kakching district, Victoria Yengkhom flagged off the taxi service at her office at Kakching today.
It may be mentioned that the VDRF under its initiative Covid Response Fund had earlier launched the 1st phase of the free taxi service from May 21 to June 21.More than 850 persons had availed the service.
Speaking to reporters, VDRF members said the service was launched to provide free taxi service to people of Kakching and adjoining areas for Covid testing at hospitals, health centres and Government recognised testing centres.
"This service aims at facilitating early testing and hopefully increase the number Covid testing which may be vital to contain the virus and flatten the infection curve," said a member of the VDRF.
The first phase was very successful as it provided free taxi service to more than 850 persons.
The 2nd phase is being launched following the demand of the people of Kakching and its adjoining areas, said the member.
Notably, the 2nd phase of the free taxi service will last a month and the taxi will ferry people for testing from home to hospitals and testing centres.
Above this, the taxi provided will also ferry people to Covid care centres.
Meanwhile, the Volunteers of Disaster Relief Forum, Manipur under its initiative Covid Response Fund is continuing to provide Covid relief materials and medical kits including oxygen concentrators, oximeters, hand sanitizers, sodium hypo chloride.
PPEs, monetary assistance and other aids to clubs, localities and Covid Care Centres.
Interestingly, this is not the first time the Volunteers of Disaster Relief Forum (VDRF), established in 2015, has come to the rescue of the people by providing such services.
The VDRF had played a major role in providing relief materials and much needed medical care and attention to people of Kakching, Wangoo, Sugnu, Thoubal, Wangjing-Tentha and other areas during the 2015 flood.
