Imphal, June 04 2011:
Secretary of Council of Higher Secondary Education, Manipur Dr H Nabachandra Singh has asserted that there is no question of under marking in the result of the Higher Secondary Examination, 2011 which was declared recently.
Addressing a press conference at the conference hall of the Council today, Dr Nabachandra said that it was unfortunate that some organisations have been trying to mislead the public on the result of the Higher Secondary Examination, 2011 .
"There is no question of under marking in the results and allegation that many students have been made to fail in Physics is baseless," Dr Nabachandra said, while refuting charges that more students were in compartmental in Physics.
Dr Nabachandra pointed out that students appeared the examination in all 39 subjects in the Higher Secondary Examination, 2011.Among these 39 subjects, there are subjects where cent percent pass percentage have been recorded and where students have scored higher marks.
The pass percentage recorded in Alternative English is 98.35, 96.45 in Biology, 97.29 in Chemistry, 92.36 in Computer Science, 98.62 in English, 90.57 in Home Science, 98.68 in Manipur (MIL), 98.91 in Elective, 93.22 in Psychology, etc.
While in Physics and Mathematics, the pass percentage recorded is respectively 70.97 and 60.08.Nonetheless, the student, who secured the highest mark in Physics got 97 out of 100 and in Mathematics, it was 100 out of 100, Dr Nabachandra further pointed out.
Reacting to allegation that most Science students came in the compartmental in Physics in the HSE 2011, Dr Hamom Nabachandra, another Council official, who was also present explained that most Science students who opted Physics also opted Mathematics.
There is no practical in Mathematics whereas in Physics, there is 30 marks for practical.
To pass in the subject, a student has to get atleast 21 marks in theory.
Moreover, all the students have to pass in MIL and English, which are compulsory subjects and three other subjects.
If the fourth subject is to be included, they have to give examination in all six subjects.
Out of these six subjects, a student can fail in one of the subjects besides English and Manipuri.
The subject in which the student failed would be regarded as the fourth subject.
In case of failing in two subjects, the subject in which the student secured better mark would be regarded as the fourth subject while the other with less score as compartmental subject, Dr Hamom Nabachandra said.
In the result of the exam this time, many Science students including those who failed in both Physics and Mathematics, have been given Mathematics as the fourth subject and Physics as the compartmental subject, mainly because even if more number of students fail in Physics than in Mathematics, they get better mark in Physics on account of the score from the practical examination.
So, even if they have to reappear in the exam in Physics, there is better chances of passing, Dr Hamom Nabachandra added.
Chairman of the Council of Higher Secondary Education, Manipur S Geeta and Controller of Examination AK Tampakleima were also present during the press conference.
