Rani Gaidinliu's statue likely by Oct

Seventy per cent of the construction work of freedom fighter Rani Gaidinliu's statue has been completed.
Effort is on to finish the work by this October, informed Sharma Arts and Craft House managing director Brahmachari Banamali.
Speaking to The Sangai Express, sculptor B Banamali said that the life-size bronze statue of rani Gaidinliu is around 9 feet tall and weighs around 3 tonnes (3000 kilograms).
The statue is the biggest statue ever made in Manipur.
"As of now, 70 per cent of the work has been completed.
The teams are putting relentless effort day and night to unveil the statue to the public in October this year.
The total estimated cost of the sculpture is Rs 60 lakh.
The statue will be placed in Rani Gaidinliu Park which adjoins the High Court and Secretariat office," Banamali informed.
K Kakomlunglu, president of Kabui Mothers' Association who is also one of the members of the Expert Committee selected by the Art and Culture Department, Government of Manipur for the construction of Rani Gaidinliu's statue said that contributions and sacrifices of Rani Gaidinliu should never be forgotten by the people.
She added that the State Government gave approval to construct the statue of Rani Gaidinliu in April 25, 2016 after which the sculpting work was started from May first week.
"Rani Gaidinliu was born in Manipur and breathed her last at her native village Longkao (Nungkao).
She had fiercely marched together with Haipou Jadonang and the people against the Britishers.
Kabui Mothers' Association is extremely grateful to the State Government for approving to construct Rani Gaidinliu's statue.
People of Manipur irrespective of differences should acknowledge the sacrifices of Rani Gaidinliu and remember her contributions always," K Kakomlunglu added.
