PREPAK cadres held with IED

Imphal, March 03 2012: Two PREPAK cadres who reportedly came to plant bomb at the residence of Bijoy Koijam, Congress candidate in Thongju AC, have been apprehended by Imphal West commandos along with an IED.

A police source informed that the two PREPAK cadres were arrested by a team of Imphal West commandos from Thongju Pheijaleitong at about 8.30 pm yesterday.

The arrested cadres have been identified as Ningthoujam Momo (31) of Kakwa Khongnangpheidekpi Makha Leikai and Atom Jayenta (26) of Thoubal Haokha Mamang Leikai.

One Tata Sumo (MN-03P/1074) used by them has also been seized.

On searching the jeep, one IED was recovered.

On questioning, the PREPAK cadres reportedly disclosed that they were sent to plant the IED at the residence of MLA Bijoy Koijam at Pheijaleitong.

Meanwhile, our Jiribam correspondent reported that one hardcore cadre of UNLF was nabbed by troops of 22 Assam Rifles from Kalinagar, Jiribam last night.

The UNLF cadre has been identified as S/S Cpl Moirangthem Yaningba alias Nono (26) of Babukhal village, Jiribam.

Nono had received training in the 28th batch of MPA and his army number is 1522.He has been handed over to Jiribam police station.

On the otherhand, a joint team of Imphal West police commandos and Assam police reportedly apprehended a top cadre of KCP (Noyon) group from a Guwahati area while troops of Assam Rifles nabbed one activist of the proscribed KYKL.

According to an informed source, Imphal West commandos and Assam police personnel rounded up self-styled Revenue Officer of the KCP group from Borakos Guest House in Guwahati at around 11.30 pm yesterday.

It is said that some incriminating documents and five sim cards with a mobile phone handset have been recovered from the individual identified as Rajiv Seram alias Bobo alias Bikram alias Pukchao (46) of Nongmeibung Seram Leirak.

Meanwhile, a PRO IGAR (S) release said troops of 42 Assam Rifles of 26 Sector apprehended KYKL's SS Cpl Leitongbam Romei Meitei (26) s/o L Udop Meitei of Wangoo Mayai Leikai in Bishnupur district from a Chandel district area on March 2 .

Along with one 9 mm pistol, a magazine and two live rounds, Romei has been handed over to Kakching police station.

On the otherhand, a PIB (DW) release said that UNLF's SS Cpl (Army No 1522) Moirangthem Yaningba Singh alias Nono of Babukhal, in Jiribam sub-division was rounded up by troops of 22 AR under the aegis of Red Shield Division from Kalinagar Part-I, Jiribam.

A statement issued by PIB (DW) said Yaningba was arrested during a joint operation with Imphal East commandos and has been handed over to Jiribam police station.
