Imphal, November 02 2013 :
The joint meeting cum political convention of 14 political parties, not aligned with either the ruling UPA or the BJP-led NDA, held last month at the national capital has resolved to form a Third Front after the Lok Sabha elections, said CPI national council member N Mangi.
Interacting with newspersons at Irabot Bhavan today, Mangi, who is also Manipur Loumee Lup president, informed that prominent members and leaders of 14 non-UPA/NDA national as well as regional political organisations attended the meeting held on October 30 at New Delhi's Talkotara Stadium.
Stating that himself and CPI nominee for the inner Manipur Parliamentary Constituency in the upcoming Lok Sabha election Dr M Nara were also present at the said meeting during which "convention for people's unity and against communalism" was also held, N Mangi said leaders present on the occasion reached an agreement to effectively tackle activities of communal forces during the Parliament elections.
Commenting on the BJP anointing Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi as NDA's Prime Ministerial candidate, Mangi said corporate houses are sponsoring Narendra Modi.
Due to the Congress-led UPA also having the backing of monopoly powers the ruling alliance too is taking the communal path to regain power, alleged the CPI leader adding that these communal political parties have already launched election campaigns based on communalism.
Taking into account intentions of UPA and NDA alliance partners to foment communal tension in the run-up to the Lok Sabha polls, Left parties have resolved to work in tandem with non-communal political parties to restore secular and democratic image of India by defeating communal forces, Mangi maintained.
Conveying that various issues/problems besetting Manipur need to be highlighted to the Indian Parliament which would be a reality on when the people extend support to Dr Nara, he also urged the people of Manipur to extend all possible cooperation in the materialisation of CPI's goal for uprooting communal elements by reviving the Third Front.
Speaking at the occasion, Dr M Nara said the CPI national council meeting also held at New Delhi recently deliberated at length on the economic and political developments in the country.
Contending that since 1999 the Indian economic situation has gone from bad to worse, the Lok Sabha candidate cited the worsening national economy to the Central Government's focus on liberalisation and privatisation policies, eventually resulting in the common people reeling under tremendous pressure to earn a respectable livelihood.
He also construed that communal violence occurring in different parts of the country in the run-up to the Lok Sabha elections testify that resolve of the 14 political parties to find communalism is justifiable.
