Imphal, September 02 2011:
A joint meeting of the public in Jiribam is expected to be convened soon to discuss and finalise what course of action should be taken up by Jiribam District Demand Committee (JDDC) to press the demand for upgradation of Jiribam sub-division to the status of a full-fledged revenue district.
The public meeting would be convened after the delegates of JDDC who had come to Imphal on August 29 to hold talks with the Chief Minister return to Jiribam, convenor of JDDC M Maipaksana, who he is currently at Imphal, disclosed, adding that the JDDC delegates would be leaving for Jiribam tomorrow.
Maipaksana said that after the talks with the Chief Minister failed, the Committee has been holding several rounds of discussion on the issue with various civil organisations here.
The suggestions put forward by the civil organisations would be placed before the proposed public meeting at Jiribam and the Committee would act in accordance with the resolutions adopted at the said proposed public meetings.
Maipaksana disclosed that all the civil organisations with which the Committee has been holding discussion since yesterday have endorsed the demand for upgradation of Jiribam sub-division to a full-fledged revenue district.
Although most of the civil organisations have given their assurance of extending every possible support, some others maintained that they would wait for the response of the Government to the two months' time given over district demands during the recent leaders' meeting convened by UCM.
Delegates of JDDC reported met the representatives of NIPCO, UPF, Mapi Council, Nupi Samaj, Kanglamei, Chingmu-Tammi Apunba Lup, AMKIL, CLK and IPSA today while similar meetings were held with the representatives of AMUCO, MSF, DESAM, AMSU and KSA yesterday.
