All Manipur Students' Guardian Organi-sation has appealed to the state Government to implement Inner Line Permit (ILP) System in Manipur for the welfare of the future generations and to safeguard the indigenous people of the State.
Speaking to newspersons at its Palace Compound office today, Organisation secretary S sumati recounted that last year the State Assembly adopted a resolution for implementation of ILP in Manipur followed by the Government submitting a memorandum to the Central Government on the State Assembly's decision.
While regretting that the State's intimation has failed to convince the Centre, she cited alleged lack of initiative and pressure from the Government of Manipur for New Delhi remaining indifferent to such an important and sensitive issue of Manipur.
Highlighting subsequent events and meetings between State authorities and Joint Committee ILP on a number of occasions which however failed to arrived at a consensus, Sumati opined that lack of initiative by the Government had compelled the Joint Committee to line up agitations and campaigns to prevent fresh entry of non-locals along with identifying and evacuating illegal migrants.
Justifying demand for implementation of ILP in Manipur, she wondered why the State Government could not fulfil the people's wish when Governments of Nagaland, Mizoram and Arunachal Pradesh could prohibit influx of outsiders in their States.
Clarifying that demand for implementing ILP in Manipur do not amount to inimical attitude towards non-Manipuris living here, the secretary asserted that ILP is inevitable for the survival of the indigenous communities of Manipur.
