Imphal, October 31 2014 :
Seijang Development Committee (SDC) has demanded the villagers of Silent village to remove their village chief's body, buried in Seijang Uyok Ching.
In a press conference held at Manipur Press Club, SDC spokesperson L Rajendro said that Silent villagers tried to renew the feud between the two villages by burying the body of their late village chief R Hongprang in Seijang Uyuk Ching.
He alleged that Silent villagers have encroached on the land of Silent village by constructing houses.
Rajendro said that SDC secretary Waikhom Ibomcha had pleaded with the OC of Lamlai Police Station and SDPO of Imphal East to prevent Silent villagers from conducting the last rites of R Hongprang at Seijang Uyuk Ching.
However, the police failed to act on the request of the SDC, he added.
On April 19, 2013, District Judge Manipur West issued a directive to the villagers of Silent village not to enter, construct houses and grow trees in Uyuk Ching area, Rajendro said and added that the State Government is also protecting the area by setting up a VDF post at the area.
He also urged the Government and civil society organisations to intervene so that R Hongprang's body is shifted to the land of Silent village.
Rajendro further cautioned that the State Government must be responsible for any eventuality if the body is not removed by November 3 .
The press conference was jointly hosted by SDC and Seijang Progressive Youth Club.
