Opposition political parties pick up corruption to corner Govt

Leaders and party workers of seven Opposition political organisations today staged a sit-in-protest to denounce alleged rampant corruption in the O Ibobi Singh-led Congress Government and appointment irregularities in the Manipur Assembly Secretariat.
The protest session at Wahengbam Leikai also decided to depute an all party delegation to New Delhi for highlighting misrule of the Congress Government in Manipur.
Members of Trinamool Congress, MPP, BJP, CPI, CPI-M, JD (Secular) and JD (United) took part in the day-long agitation.
Addressing the protestors, former MPP legislator O Joy demanded that the controversy surrounding appointment in the Assembly Secretary be handed over to a House Committee for investigation.
He also asserted that service of the CBI sleuths be roped in to probe various corruption cases under the Congress regime, including the Loktak Lake clean-up project.
The veteran politician also stressedon the need for involving the masses in exposing misrule of the Congress Government besides condemning alleged derogatory remark by the Union Home Minister Sushil Kumar Shinde against the resolution of the Manipur State Assembly with regard to implementation of Inner Line Permit System in Manipur.
Speaking to newspersons on the sidelines of the protest, CPI State Secretary Dr M Nara confided that a delegation of the seven political parties will meet central party leaders and Lok Sabha Secretary General next month to highlight appointment irregularities in the Manipur Assembly Secretariat.
He also demanded that said appointment be investigated by a House Committee or a sitting judge of High Court.
